Puppy Recommendations
Supplies you may need:
· Small crate- big enough for him to turn around and maybe play but not too big. You want to avoid one big enough that he could urinate or have a bowel movement in one corner and go play in another.
· Food and water bowls- we feed and will give you a sample of Diamond Puppy food. You may switch to another brand but stick with puppy food. Iams and Eukanuba are highly recommended. Mix the old food and the new food together for 2-3 days.
· Puppy training pads
· A pen or a baby gate in order to give him a more confined play area.
· Play toys (squeaky toys, rope toys or stuffed animals)
· Collar, leash and identification tag
· Slicker brush- more useful for adults when the coat is a little longer and more prone to tangles and mats.
General Care:
· Feed twice daily and use the recommended feeding dosage that is on the back of the puppy food bag. Make sure he has access to unlimited water.
· He is accustomed to going out within 10 minutes of eating, first thing in the morning, and before going to bed at night. He is also used to being in the crate at night and when we are gone from the house.
· Dogs get heartworms from mosquitoes, so they should be kept on monthly heartworm prevention. You can get this from your vet. Your puppy has had the first dose of heartworm prevention.
· Your puppy has had the first set of vaccinations but he will need several boosters before he has full immunity. Until he has received all vaccines, avoid puppy stores and parks where there is a danger of unvaccinated animals.
· Try to avoid bathing more than once every other week.
· Last but not least: Send us pictures and updates as frequently as possible!!
